He stressed that countries remember well the events of almost a century ago, when radical ideas took hold of millions of minds in Germany, Italy, Hungary, Finland, Spain, Portugal and Croatia, while fascist dictatorships combined state resources, monopolies, armies, and propaganda to maintain power. But they ignored the law and dealt with dissenters on their way to global domination.
‘Today we see how the truth about those events is being corrupted. There has never been a war in the history of mankind that has been subject to such large-scale falsification. The West is imposing its postulates on the international community,’ said Viktor Goremykin.
He recalled that the West claims that the USSR and the Third Reich were equally responsible for starting the Second World War, deliberately downplays the role of the Red Army in defeating Nazi Germany and militarist Japan, creates a myth of Soviet occupation of Eastern European countries, and actively manufactures other lies for its own benefit. This is done in order to cast a shadow over Russia today.
‘The apparent rehabilitation of Nazism is also manifested in the destruction of monuments to Soviet soldiers in the countries of the European Union,’ said General of the Army Viktor Goremykin.
He stressed that the desire to justify today's Nazis is part of the common policy of Western ruling elites to fuel regional conflicts and contain independent centres of world development.
'In February 2014, they plotted a coup d'état in Ukraine and brought ultranationalists to power. The Kiev regime has begun to systematically exterminate everything Russian: language, culture, media. It excluded the Russians from the list of Ukraine's indigenous nations. It subjected the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church to persecution and eventually banned it,’ said the Deputy Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation.
Viktor Goremykin stressed that this posed a direct threat to Russia's sovereignty and security.
‘In the course of the special military operation, we encountered the criminal tactics of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They use civilian infrastructure for firing positions, strongholds, air defence systems, and heavy weapons. In the Kursk border area, Ukrainian militants and mercenaries shot civilians, bombed houses and engaged in mass looting,' said Viktor Goremykin.
He noted that the pursuit of a Ukrainian settlement was actively resisted by Europe led by the leaders of the UK and France.
Viktor Goremykin recalled that at the Paris summit, European countries discussed increasing pressure on Russia and the possibility of sending NATO deterrence forces to Ukraine as a security guarantee for Kiev.
He also pointed out that the European Union's announcement of the adoption of a five-year programme of large-scale European rearmament was also a matter of serious concern.
'I would like to emphasise that such a development is unacceptable to us. And we will take all necessary measures to ensure the security of our country,’ the Deputy Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation stressed.
