During a working visit to the Western MD's units, Russian Defence Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu inspected the progress of modernisation of the experimental bases of the Russian Defence Ministry's research institutes deployed in the Moscow region.
The Russian Defence Minister was informed that thanks to the improvement of the experimental base of the 12th Central Research Institute of the Russian Defence Ministry, the number of weapons and military-special equipment samples tested has multiplied.
In the research and testing complex of the 12th Central Research Institute of the Russian Ministry of Defence, the head of the Russian military department was briefed on the research conducted by the institution.
The head of the 12th Central Research Institute of the Russian Defence Ministry Igor Kolesnikov pointed out that the modernisation of the institute's experimental and testing facilities, carried out as part of the State Armament Programme, will make it possible to shorten the duration of state tests, increase the institute's throughput capacity and bring test conditions as close as possible to full-scale explosive experiments.
In the course of the working visit, the Russian Defence Minister inspected development of infrastructure of the 48th Central Research Institute of the Russian Defence Ministry. Chief of Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological Protection Troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov briefed Sergei Shoigu on the fact that two new buildings of the research cluster are currently being prepared for commissioning at the institute. The main stage of construction of the facilities has already been completed.
The construction of new laboratory buildings will ensure the creation of a research cluster in the interests of biological defence. It will make it possible to identify biological threats in the shortest possible time, to develop and produce means of indication, prophylaxis, including vaccine preparations with testing of their effectiveness, and to participate in international investigations into the probable use of biological agents.
One of the practical results of research in this field was the development and creation of the world's first vaccine against a new coronavirus infection, as well as vaccines against Ebola, Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), and a universal influenza vaccine.
In addition, the Russian Defence Minister was briefed on the development and improvement of the social infrastructure facilities established in the garrison.

Russian Defence Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu sent telegrams to servicemen of units and formations, who distinguished themselves during the special military operation in connection with the awarding of the honourable designation of Guards. Three regiments and two brigades were honoured with these designations.
Since December 2022, carrying out tasks in the Pologi and Orekhovsk directions, the servicemen of the 1429th Motorised Rifle Regiment supported the combat operations of formations and units of the 58th Combined Arms Army. They destroyed a large number of armoured vehicles, mortar crews, and artillery systems of the enemy. After the beginning of the AFU counter-offensive, the personnel of the regiment steadfastly and courageously held the defence near Rabotino, repelled numerous enemy attacks, held the occupied positions. For bravery and selflessness shown during the special military operation, 450 servicemen of the regiment were honoured with state awards.
Since November 2022, performing combat tasks in the Zaporozhye direction, the personnel of the 1430th Motorised Rifle Regiment set up a powerful echeloned system of engineering barriers, persistently holding defensive lines and positions, continuously delivering strikes, and by daring actions of reconnaissance and assault detachments repelled numerous enemy attacks and prevented enemy units from advancing. For heroism, bravery and courage shown during the special military operation, 320 servicemen of the regiment were awarded orders and medals.
From the first days of the special military operation, units of the 2nd Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defence Regiment supported the actions of assault detachments, inflicted fire damage, destroyed enemy strongholds, and military hardware, and successfully carried out the task of setting up aerosol curtains in areas of concentration, when Russian troops were crossing water obstacles. For the valour, bravery and courage displayed during the operation, 175 servicemen of the regiment received State awards.
The personnel of the 61st Separate Kirkenes Red Banner Marine Brigade have been honourably fulfilling their military duty since the first days of the special military operation. Near Avdeyevka, the brigade's units liberated 10 settlements from Ukrainian neo-Nazis, repelled numerous attacks by AFU units, and destroyed a large number of enemy personnel and hardware. In the course of fierce battles near Svatovo, the Marines pushed AFU units from the occupied borders and successfully defended the borders for more than three weeks. For the distinctions shown during the special military operation, 1,300 servicemen of the brigade were honoured with State awards and decorations.
The personnel of the 1st Mobile Brigade of Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defence Troops have been honourably fulfilling their military duty since the first days of the special military operation. For distinctions shown in the performance of combat missions, bravery, and courage, 125 servicemen of the brigade were awarded orders and medals, and Lieutenant Belikov was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation.
